Finish processing and printing self portraits. Due - self portraits - Friday, March 22. Critique. Lecture on metering in tricky situations. Making substitution readings. Examples of toning.

Continue shooting and printing portraits and self portraits. Due - 2 portraits and one contact - March 8. Critique. Visit Candela Gallery. Montage assignment given. Due - roll for montage shot - March 15.
February 18-28
Presidents' Day! on the 18th. Holiday for students, professional development for teachers. Field trip to Candela Gallery 19th/20th to hear artist Susan Worsham talk about her work. 7th and 8th period students come straight to class so we can leave. 5th period please come to class at 12.

September 24-28
Each student should bring their camera with proper batteries on 24/25. Basic camera operation will be covered. 8th period will go to Candella Gallery on the 25th. There will be a guest lecture by Michael Lease, artist and Director of Exhibitions at the Anderson Gallery on Wed, 26th 11:45-12:15 in the black box. Everyone should plan to attend. Finish photograms. Critique at beginning of class on the 28th.
September 17-21
Students should have their own photo paper by 17/18. Continue working on photograms. Walking field trip to Candella Gallery, 19/20.
Due: Photograms: monster, "scape", and positive/negative. All 8x10". Friday, Sept 28 at the beginning of class.

Note: Here are the things NOT to use in photograms- keys, keychains, keychain bobs, money, jewelry, CDs, earbuds, film reels, glasses, scissors, grooming stuff- combs, brushes, barettes, bobbipins etc. , obvious symbols such as peace signs, crosses, hearts, etc., no "v" birds, dreamcatchers, logos or symbols for corporations like the nike swoosh or Target target

Welcome! Class overview and introduction. Early history of photography. Camera obscura and basics of image formation.
NOTE: You will need to have your cameras by September 24 or 25. You should have photo paper by September 17 or 18.
CAMERAS: You can probably find a decent used camera on eBay. Some good brands and models are - Pentax K1000, Nikon FM,FE,FE2 or FM10. Canon AE1, AE1program or Rebel (just make sure it is not a Rebel digital). Olympus OM1. There are many others that would be just fine as long as you can manually adjust the focus, aperture (f-stop #) and shutter speed. Stay away from the brand Rioch as they tend to break easily.
